Lining us up, boys we all look guilty. She's gonna pick the baddest apple That little girl, oh she likes them rotten, she already forgot her Daddy's warning Oh, when Daddy isn't watching, oh her Daddy isn't watching her now and all the usual suspects are here In this little town, oh she's such a scandal, nobody gonna get a handle on her If you lay it down, oh it ain't a gamble, it's the surest thing going on around here Oh, we all look suspect I swear and all the usual suspects are here 100% I am made of cotton, I shrink when I sink in hot water That little girl, so hot she's scalding, ain't gonna be nothing left of me Call them animal instincts I fear, all the usual suspects are here
2.
Hard times, we left them back East and the future moves under our feet we are westward bound Old ways won't follow us there, new names we'll make for ourselves in some western town Trials may visit our trail, but we're so stubborn we know we can't fail we are westward bound Danger may well be ahead, but we're moving, we'll rest when we're dead, we are westward bound I realize that youth is wasted on the young Oh, I know that I have wasted more than some But idealism is the air that fills my lungs Oh, I know that now my wasting days are done

cut my teeth, untie my tongue I wasn't listening, so I was made example of good advice given often all too often gets old and since I wasn't listening, I was made example of They say that if you don't change where you're going, you're gonna end up right where you're headed I couldn't see the cracks that were showing, the blind side of me had no way of knowing hindsight isn't helping me I wasn't mindful, I wasn't minding anyone My stubborn sails are full of an obstinate wind I wasn't listening so I was made example of I don't doubt it, I never doubted it for a second It's just that I wasn't listening They say that if you don't change where you're going, you're gonna end up right where you're headed I couldn't see the cracks that were showing, the blind side of me had no way of knowing

Jesusita 03:53
Heaven help us now I hear panicked Spanish from the Mission I cannot understand a word of it I cannot understand a word at all I saw the fire coming down the mountain quickly I could tell that we were breathing hot and heavy Jesusita hell fire, heaven help us now I know we will all be alright if the Sundowners will just die down for tonight Jesusita hell fire, heaven help us now Heaven help us all

Lonely fortunes fall down at our bare feet, but there are cracks in the concrete Our tired eyes can see so much more clearly, so clearly that we're never gonna have much, myself, I'd take such as a compliment We can blame it on our circumstances, at least we took the chances we had to I'm so sorry I forgot myself I should have asked for help You say that's ok and that you know we've got it made so I know we've got it made But we're never gonna have much, myself, I'd take such as a compliment We can blame it on our circumstances, at least we took the chances we had to

Hide it Well 03:25
Girl don't giggle it's a nervous laugh, you hide it well, at first he couldn't tell Nobody wants to act like they care too much You hide it well Boy don't fidget you're a nervous one, you hide it well, at first she could't tell Nobody wants to act like they care too much You hide it well Honey my heart is a heavy one I need to rest a spell, for you it was I fell Nobody wants to act like they care too much I'm gonna hide it well
7.
All around me are wasted plans Everywhere you look no matter where you stand, don't get caught with a Dead Man's Hand Buried my heart in the cigarette sand, back of a club in Chicagoland So we got drunk off a whiskey brand, they're all the same when you can't stand Don't get caught with a Dead Man's Hand Playing with fire in the heartland Don't get caught with a Dead Man's Hand
8.
She's so cool, calm and collected I'm the opposite, but still effective now Her mother had a sense of humor, thank goodness Her father knew that I was just too much like him I had a little momentary lapse of self-assuredness A bit of self-doubt Yeah, I got problems that I'm working out Cause they were speaking fluent Esperanto, but I don't so she was kind enough to let me know just what it was they were talking about The girl is a problem solver She's so sure of just where we're headed Her mother waved and her father fretted for us I had a little momentary lapse of self-awareness but she could care less Yeah, I got problems that I'm working out I know enough to know I don't know myself yet, but she's so confident, so sure of it, she said she's got it all figured out The girl is a problem solver
9.
It was the death of a decade It was the harbinger of a new age It was the death of a decade It was the catalyst for a new age You couldn't hear my confession I swear I was just about to change You didn't look my direction You were a passenger who would not wave I was just about to change It was the death of a decade It was the harbinger of a new age It was the death of a decade I saw the curtain fall upon your stage I was just about to change Man, I've gotta change my ways
10.
Carry me softly, Six men strong on their shoulders a box of bones such thoughts in passing dwell thereupon honest shoulders a burden’s gone I carried my own weight just as long as I could, but it never did me any good and I only hurt the ones I love by keeping myself separate, by saying I could handle it all alone Everybody there ain't no great harm No cause to raise the alarm Held by the strongest arms
11.
The Humorist 04:28
They use to call me the humorist, of all people to call that, I never thought I was all that funny Ain't it entertaining Isn't it appealing The thought of something's always much better than the feeling I used to think that they thought I was joke, you never know just what some folk might say about you Ain't it entertaining isn't it appealing the thought of something's always much better than the feeling Oh what tangled webs we weave, caught up each and everyone in our own individual, little histories While it's some new fangled mystery that has us all amused The Humorist With my apotheosis complete, everyone I meet, I know is only gonna greet a real fictional character Ain't it disappointing Isn't it revealing The thought of something's always much better than the feeling Tell me how deep that river is….say Mark Twain I'm gonna catch a comet I know the people on it A wave to my wife and my beautiful daughters Oh what tangled webs we weave, caught up each and everyone in our own individual, little histories While it's some new-fangled mystery that has us all amused The Humorist Tell me how deep that river is
